Slot: We Deserved to Beat Burnley; We Have Only Ourselves to Blame

Arne Slot, Liverpool’s Dutch head coach, believes his team deserved to win against Burnley in the Premier League.

Liverpool continued their streak of draws in the Premier League for the fourth consecutive match, stumbling against their guests, Burnley, with a 1-1 draw this Saturday at Anfield in the 22nd round of the English Premier League.

Liverpool’s goal was scored by German star Florian Wirtz in the 42nd minute, while Marcus Edwards equalized for Burnley in the 65th minute.

Post-Match Statements
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Slot said: “I agree that we should have won this game. I couldn’t have asked for much more in terms of creating chances.”

He added: “We dominated possession for long periods during the match, but I wish we had created even more opportunities.”

The coach continued: “When you rely on an open style of play, it can expose you to counter-attacks, but that didn’t happen today. I don’t know how many chances we had, but we only scored one goal.”

“I can’t say we stopped playing, but we failed to build up play from the back at times, and that is part of football… it summarizes a large part of our season,” Slot noted.

Performance Analysis
Regarding Florian Wirtz’s performance, Slot commented: “He was very good in the second half as well. We had many moments in the final third, and that’s not easy against a team that defends with so many players around their penalty area.”

He emphasized: “Matches like these are usually difficult, and in the end, it’s painful that we only scored one goal.”

Slot went on to say: “It’s not the first time this season that we’ve created so many chances and haven’t scored enough to finish the game. It’s also not the first time we haven’t conceded real chances, yet we still concede a goal.”

Top Four Race
On the battle for the top four, Slot said: “Every time you lose points, it affects your position in the table. We have lost a lot of points this season even though we didn’t deserve to, and conversely, we have barely gained points when we didn’t deserve them. There is no one to blame but ourselves.”

With this draw, Liverpool increases its tally to 36 points, sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Burnley moves to 14 points, remaining in 19th place (second to last).
