Chelsea Launches Internal Investigation After Aston Villa Match

Chelsea Football Club has announced an immediate internal investigation following allegations that a plastic water bottle was thrown towards the Aston Villa bench.

Aston Villa won 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening in the 18th round of the English Premier League.

The match was marked by significant tension, with the referee issuing eight yellow cards. Aston Villa’s set-piece coach, Austin McVeigh, received a caution in the final minutes, prompting captain John McVeigh to mock the incident by posting laughing emojis and a GIF of a yellow card on the X platform.

Tensions reached their peak at the final whistle when a plastic water bottle was thrown towards the Villa bench, splashing some members of the coaching staff. Some expressed disgust, and one reportedly suggested the bottle came from the Chelsea bench area, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.

According to the British newspaper Mirror, “Chelsea confirmed its commitment to fully cooperating with Aston Villa and any relevant authorities to accurately determine the source of the bottle being thrown, using CCTV footage from the stadium to examine the incident.”

The report continued, “Sources indicate that the Football Association, which is responsible for any potential disciplinary action, is aware of the allegations and has contacted both clubs for official comment.”

This incident did not diminish Aston Villa’s joy at their victory, secured by a brace from substitute Ollie Walkers in the second half, which extended their winning streak to a record-breaking 11 matches across all competitions.

Villa (39 points) currently sits third in the Premier League, one point behind second-placed Manchester City and three points behind leaders Arsenal, whom they face next Tuesday.
