Refereeing Expert: Real Madrid’s Penalty Was Incorrect

The decision by Spanish referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernández to award a penalty to Real Madrid in the 41st minute sparked outrage among Talavera players during their Copa del Rey Round of 32 match on Wednesday evening.
The Talavera players vehemently protested the decision, insisting that defender Marcos Moreno did not deliberately handle the ball, as his arm was in a natural position and close to his body.
Pavel Fernández, a refereeing expert for Spanish radio station Radio Marca, commented on the decision, saying, “Marcos Moreno’s hand was in a natural position, and his arm was close to his body, so it cannot be considered a clear foul.”
Fernández added that “the absence of VAR in the match deprived Talavera of the opportunity to review the play, making the referee’s decision final and unchangeable.”
The penalty kick was taken by Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, who scored his team’s first goal of the match in the 42nd minute.
