Rodrygo close to Tottenham after Son’s departure

Brazilian star Rodrygo is close to leaving Real Madrid during the current summer transfer window, given the offensive momentum being relied upon by new coach Xabi Alonso.

According to the Spanish newspaper “AS,” the transfer of South Korean Son Heung-min from Tottenham Hotspur opened the door for the English club to move towards signing Rodrygo, especially given the increased space available on the wage bill.

The newspaper indicated that Son was earning €11 million annually, and with his departure, Spurs’ management can allocate this amount towards a new deal. Rodrygo is the most prominent option to replace Son.

The report added that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is seeking to negotiate with Real Madrid to reduce the deal’s value.

The coming days are expected to determine Rodrygo’s final destination, amid growing speculation that he could move to Tottenham to become the team’s most prominent star after the departures of Harry Kane and Son.
