UEFA opens an investigation into Champions League match between Porto vs Inter Milan
The European Football Association (UEFA) has opened an investigation into the prevention of Inter Milan fans, who were prevented from entering their team’s match against Porto, Portugal, in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, despite having tickets for the match.
And footage spread on social media showing that hundreds of Inter fans did not enter the “Dragao” stadium at the start of the match.
Porto had announced before the match yesterday, Tuesday, that Inter fans who had purchased tickets in the stands of the host team would not be allowed to enter, even if it was through the club itself.
For his part, Inter claimed that he had reached an agreement to allow his fans to attend the match if they wore neutral colors. UEFA confirmed yesterday, Wednesday, that it would consider this matter.
A UEFA spokesperson said: “UEFA is aware that a large group of away fans have purchased tickets in the home team’s part of the stadium.”
He added, “UEFA regulations stipulate that 5 percent of the stadium’s capacity must be for the visiting team in an area separate from the home team’s fans.”
Inter Milan had qualified for the quarter-finals at the expense of Porto, after imposing a goalless draw on it yesterday, Tuesday, in the second leg of the round of sixteen, to qualify by winning 1-0 on aggregate.
