Rodrygo at a crossroads: disappointing numbers and interest from European giants

A Spanish newspaper report, published on Thursday, highlighted a significant development in the future of Brazilian Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who has been in doubt at the Santiago Bernabéu during this period.

The Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” confirmed that after a lackluster season for Rodrygo and a clear decline in his performance, he is no longer considered an “untouchable” player at the club.

The newspaper noted that this was evident during the Club World Cup, where Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso left him in favor of young striker Gonzalo, who stole the spotlight and was the tournament’s top scorer.

The report added that his statistics reflect this decline, as he has scored only 14 goals in 54 matches, an average of one goal every 246 minutes. This situation has made him a target for criticism from fans and the media, opening the door to the possibility of his exit.

Despite his contract until 2028 with a hefty €1 billion release clause, the club wouldn’t mind letting him leave if a significant financial opportunity arose. Despite this decline, Rodrygo still retains his value in the European market.

The newspaper reported that Manchester City has been interested in him for years, while Arsenal is currently the most serious. Liverpool and Bayern Munich have also recently entered the race to sign the Brazilian.

It’s striking that the player has yet to comment on any of this news, neither in press interviews during the tournament nor on his personal accounts, which he typically uses to interact with fans. This silence adds further uncertainty to his future.

At the same time, it seems that Real Madrid’s signing of young Argentine Franco Mastantuano, who plays in a similar position to Rodrygo, could be a clear indication of the club’s intention to prepare a replacement for him.

So far, there are no official offers on the club’s table, and the parties involved are showing no urgency, making it all but certain that Rodrygo’s story will continue over the coming weeks, as the club awaits a decision on whether to stay or leave the Santiago Bernabéu.
