Feyenoord coach sacked ahead of Champions League clash with Milan

Dutch club Feyenoord have officially sacked coach Brian Priske, two days before they host Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 play-off.

Feyenoord are fifth in the Dutch league, despite beating Sparta Rotterdam 3-0 in the previous round.

Prieske signed a three-year contract with Feyenoord in June, when he replaced Arne Slot who left to take over at Liverpool, but has come under pressure recently after a string of poor results.

The team’s win over Sparta Rotterdam was their first in five league games, but they remain 12 points behind leaders Ajax Amsterdam.

Feyenoord were also knocked out of the Dutch Cup, which they won last season, by PSV Eindhoven last week.

“The club points to inconsistent results and a lack of harmony as the main reasons (for Priske’s dismissal), although Feyenoord achieved some impressive results with Brian, especially in the Champions League,” Feyenoord said in a statement. “However, the team’s performances have been very inconsistent in recent months and, unfortunately, we see very little structural progress.”
