Chelsea follows in Arsenal’s footsteps by bringing in the missing piece

Chelsea decided to follow in the footsteps of its neighbor Arsenal, by bringing a set-piece coach to the first team starting next season (2024-2025).

According to The Athletic newspaper, the London club has reached an agreement with its counterpart, Brentford, to sign Bernardo Cueva, its goalkeeper coach.

The 36-year-old Mexican coach has been at Brentford since September 2020, working as a data and statistics analyst.

After advancing to the Premier League in 2021, Cueva turned into a set-piece coach, drawing attention to him thanks to Brentford’s prowess in this aspect.

The London club chose Cueva to fill the vacant position since Anthony Barry left for Bayern Munich last April, to work with Thomas Tuchel, the former Blues coach.

Cueva will continue his work with Brentford until the end of the current season, before moving to Chelsea next summer.
