Man United fears a catastrophic number… and Heylund dreams of writing European history

Manchester United will return to resume its Champions League matches tomorrow, Tuesday, when it hosts Copenhagen of Denmark at Old Trafford in the third round of the group stage.

This is the first time that Manchester United has started a season in the Champions League with two defeats in the first two matches, and in general, United lost the last 3 matches it played in the competition.

Red Devils striker Rasmus Hoylund succeeded in scoring 3 goals in the team’s two matches in the Champions League, and if he scores against his former team Copenhagen, he will become the first player to score in his first 3 matches with a Man United shirt in European competition since John Connelly in 1965.

Eric Ten Hag, Manchester United coach, lost his last 3 Champions League matches, which is his longest consecutive losing streak in the competition over the 34 matches he played in it.

If Manchester United loses tomorrow’s match, it will be the first time in the history of the Red Devils that they lose 4 consecutive matches in the Champions League.

In turn, Copenhagen suffers from its inability to maintain its lead in the score. In the first match, it gave up a two-goal lead to draw (2-2) against Galatasaray, and in the second round, it gave up a one-goal lead to lose at home to Bayern Munich (2-1). The teams that have given up the most points after leading in the tournament this season by 5 points.

Copenhagen only qualified for the knockout rounds once, and then lost to Chelsea in the 16-finals of the 2010-2011 season.

While Manchester United only achieved one victory in the last 3 matches it played against Danish teams in the Champions League, Copenhagen did not score in the last 7 matches it played against English teams and lost 4 of them, and scored the last goal against Manchester City in the European Cup in February 2009, and then lost (2-1) in the return match of the round of 32.

This is the fourth confrontation between the two teams and the first since the 2019-2020 season, when United overcame Copenhagen (1-0) in the quarter-finals of the Europa League thanks to a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes in extra time.

The two teams had previously been together in the group stage of the Champions League in the 2006-2007 season, and at that time Copenhagen achieved the first victory in its history in the Champions League, coming against United in particular with a score of (1-0), and the Danish team lost in the second round match by three clean goals.

Copenhagen has never achieved any victory in its 4 visits against English teams in the Champions League, and it has not scored any goals either, and conceded 9 goals.
