Former Chelsea player: Salah is the best in Liverpool’s history in the Premier League
Chris Sutton, a former Chelsea player and analyst for the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, believes that it is difficult to argue that Mohamed Salah is the greatest player in the history of Liverpool in the Premier League era, superior to the legend Steven Gerrard.
Salah scored a brace in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Everton last Saturday.
Sutton told the British newspaper: “Our entry into this controversy shows what Salah has provided over 7 years. Steven (Gerrard) carried the club for years, but Salah has been exceptional since his arrival.”
He added: “Salah is distinguished by his solidity. The Premier League has witnessed 237 matches since the Egyptian winger’s arrival. He participated in 227 of them, and succeeded in scoring 194 goals (in all competitions).”
He continued: “There is a comparison with Steven Gerrard, who did not win the Premier League title, that great player that we saw, but I think it is difficult to argue that Salah is the best and greatest Liverpool player in the Premier League era.”
He continued: “I don’t think the public realizes that they are watching a truly great and world-class player. I don’t think he is talked about in the way he would have been if it had been about Ronaldo.”
He concluded: “Salah did not perform at his best on Saturday, but he nevertheless succeeded in scoring. You always go to Anfield expecting him to score. He has a tremendous influence on the team and gives him comfort, and he succeeded in taking Liverpool to another level.”
