‘The possibility of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona “generates great excitement” Says Xavi

Following Monday night’s draw with Girona, Barcelona manager Xavi acknowledges that Lionel Messi’s prospective comeback to the team “generates great excitement” for their supporters.

Messi’s name was sung by supporters at the Nou Camp during the 10th minute of their goalless draw, which gives Barcelona a 13-point advantage over fierce rival Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga standings.

Although rumours regarding Messi’s potential return to the club continue to spread, Barcelona fans also screamed his name during their lopsided Copa del Rey semi-final second leg loss to Real last week.

 

According to Xavi, Barca will monitor the development of negotiations with the Argentine.

“I believe the supporters’ attitude is incredibly upbeat”, Xavi said.

“They assess and value the effort made by the club and the team to achieve this advantageous position. Nevertheless, we must win this title

“I believe Leo generates great excitement. His name has been repeated a few times by the crowd. The possibility of him returning to the club causes a tremendous lot of enthusiasm.

“But we’ll have to wait and see. We only need to concentrate on winning La League and the upcoming games.”

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 on a two-year contract, is out of contract this summer and has not yet agreed to a new agreement with the Ligue 1 champions.

The World Cup winner is awaiting communication from Barcelona president Joan Laporta before deciding on his future, according to reports in Spain.

 

Former Messi teammate Xavi expressed his desire to see the Argentine play for his old team in a press conference at the end of March.

“Being my friend, I chat to him frequently”, he remarked.

“Although we are addressing the problem, much work remains before it is complete. The financial level of justice and Leo’s desire to return are key factors. We should visit him at his house once more.”

“Hopefully. It is his favourite club. Leo is one of the greatest football players I have ever seen, and I have watched him develop over the years.”
