The end of a 10-year wait, Milan beat Tottenham

Milan scored a 1-0 victory over Tottenham in the first leg of the Champions League final at San Siro.

The only goal of the meeting came through Brahim Diaz.

The victory is the first for Milan over Tottenham in European competitions, after two defeats and two draws before.

For the first time, the Rossoneri won the Champions League knockout stage since 2013, when they beat Barcelona in the first leg, 2-0.

The two teams will meet again on the eighth of next March at Tottenham Stadium to decide the identity of the qualifier, noting that there is no rule for the goal outside the ground.

Match description

Milan started the meeting pressing in search of an early goal.

In the seventh minute, the landowners achieved what they wanted. Theo Hernandez penetrated from the left side and hit a ball that bounced off the goalkeeper, followed by Brahim Diaz with a shot that Forrester saved, then Diaz followed it up with a header again, and the ball hit the net.

Diaz (23 years and 195 days) became the youngest player to score with Milan in a Champions League knockout match since Kaka in March 2004, with a double against Deportivo La Coruña in the quarter-finals (21 years and 336 days).

The goal is the fastest for Milan in a Champions League elimination match since Ronaldinho’s goal against Manchester United in February 2010 (2 minutes and 11 seconds).

In the following minutes, Tottenham pressed for an equaliser, and had more than one opportunity to threaten Milan’s goal.

Eric Dier’s header in the 13th minute was easily saved by the Rossoneri goalkeeper.

The Romanian blocked Emerson Royal’s shot in the 26th minute, firmly in the middle of the goal.

The next minutes passed with English possession, but without real danger to the homeowners’ goal.

In the 48th minute, Christian Romero intervened strongly on Sandro Tonali and the referee famously faced the Argentine defender.

And the roosters remained in possession in search of a tie.

In the 63rd minute, Eric Dier gets a yellow card, as a result of which he will miss the second leg.

And 20 minutes before the end of normal time, Conte made his first change by going down Richarlison instead of Diane Kulusevski.

After that, Pioli made two changes, with the participation of Junior Messias and Charles de Kitlari, instead of Salimicris and Diaz, respectively, in the 77th minute.

The Belgian substitute almost scored Milan’s second goal from the first direct touch, after a header that Giroud paved for him inside the penalty area, but his header passed next to the post for a corner after colliding with the defender’s foot.

Milan’s corner almost resulted in the second goal, but Malik Zhao’s header passed by the right post in the Rossoneri’s two most dangerous chances in the second half.

In the 80th minute, Sandro Tonali gets a yellow card after his intervention on Harry Kane.

A minute later, the duo, Arnaut Danjuma and Ben Davies, replaced Son Heung-min and Clement Longlet.

Then Tommaso Pobega participated instead of Tonali.

In the 90th minute, the Croatian, Ante Rebic, replaced Rafael Leao.

In the second minute of stoppage time, Theo Hernandez gets a yellow card for objecting to the referee’s decision.

The match ended with the victory of the Rossoneri, and the decision will be at Tottenham Stadium on the eighth of next March.
