Every summer, football fans around the world turn their attention to the English Premier League’s transfer window, as major clubs compete to acquire the best talent to bolster their squads before the start of the new season.

Because the Premier League is the fiercest domestic competition in the world, it also witnesses fierce competition for signings, both domestically and from around the world, as clubs race to bolster their ranks with the best players to help them stay in the race.

After Liverpool’s Premier League title win last season, they will continue to strengthen their squad to retain their title. Meanwhile, clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal will not stand idly by to return to competition next season, as will the trio of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham, who are also vying for the coveted title.

Despite the financial challenges imposed by the past seasons, top clubs have continued their generous spending. Between sensational signings, the departure of established names, and the emergence of promising talent, the 2025-26 summer transfer window is witnessing a fierce battle for the best talent both inside and outside of England.

Since taking over at Real Madrid just days before the Club World Cup, Xabi Alonso has demonstrated remarkable tactical prowess, relying on a mental flexibility that transcends traditional patterns.

He has not limited himself to a single system, but has instead deployed diverse formations that adapt to the nature of the opponent and the circumstances of the match. In some matches, Alonso has relied on a three-man defense, with the fullbacks transforming into attacking wingers in a 3-5-2 system, enhancing the attacking force.

At other times, he has resorted to a four-man defense in a 4-3-3 formation to ensure greater defensive solidity. This flexibility in switching between a 3-4-2-1 and a 4-3-3 has given Real Madrid a dynamic identity, transcending the team’s traditional legacy, making the system more adaptable, both technically and individually.

Fran Garcia: From Weak Link to Winning Card

At the beginning of the season, Fran Garcia wasn’t among the team’s most dependable players in big matches. In fact, Real Madrid fans harshly criticized him, considering him the weakest link on the left flank due to his inconsistent performances.

However, with the arrival of Xabi Alonso, the picture changed radically. Fran transformed from a player who faced doubts to a key component of the team’s plans, reflecting Alonso’s ability to reshape players’ roles and exploit their potential.

Alonso not only gave Fran more playing time, but also redesigned his tactical role. Fran was no longer just a traditional defensive full-back, but rather an attacking winger in some formations, especially when a defensive trio was deployed, giving him the freedom to advance without worrying about defensive cover.

Fran also benefited from the support of Bellingham and Modric, who provided him with assists and defensive cover, allowing him to launch with greater confidence.

More importantly, however, was the mental shift. Alonso boosted Fran’s self-confidence, making him feel like an integral part of the project, not just a backup option.

This was reflected in his performance on the pitch, as he became calmer under pressure and better at making decisions, both passing and dribbling.

His statistics also improved significantly at the Club World Cup, where he scored a crucial goal and provided an assist against Borussia Dortmund, a match described by the Spanish press as “the rebirth of Fran Garcia.”

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson couldn’t hold back his tears as he placed a bouquet of flowers and a club scarf at the Anfield stadium fence in tribute to his late teammate Diogo Jota, who died alongside his brother André Silva in a horrific car crash in Spain.

Henderson, currently a player for Ajax Amsterdam, played alongside Jota at Liverpool for three seasons since joining from Wolverhampton in 2020.

The Daily Mail reported a touching scene on Friday, as Henderson arrived at Anfield amidst the crowds of fans, reading the memorial messages before placing a bouquet of flowers and a card that read: “Rest in peace, my friend, you and your brother André. We will miss you. Love.”

The accident occurred on the A-52 near Sernadia, Spain, where the car carrying Jota, 28, and his brother, 26, flipped after a tire burst and caught fire. Emergency crews were unable to save them.

Liverpool fans and international football stars flocked to offer their condolences, describing Jota as an “exceptional player and a great human being.”

A Spanish newspaper report revealed on Friday the truth about the offers received by Brazilian star Rodrygo Goes, who is close to leaving Los Blancos during the summer transfer window.

Marca reported that despite the frequent talk about Rodrygo Goes’ future, sources within Real Madrid denied any offers for the Brazilian player.

The newspaper added: “Despite rumors that he will play in the Premier League, especially with Arsenal, the reality is that no club has yet made an offer for the Brazilian winger, whose market value is estimated at around 80 million euros.”

The newspaper emphasized: “Real Madrid’s policy is that it is willing to listen to any offer for the Brazilian, as is the case with any other player, especially since the club’s policy is to study any offer that suits the market.”

The newspaper noted, according to sources within the club: “He is a Real Madrid player and he must contribute,” while awaiting the latest developments in coach Xabi Alonso’s plans and his possible reaction to Rodrygo.

Salah posted a touching message on his official X account, writing: “I am speechless. Until yesterday, I never imagined that anything would scare me about returning to Liverpool after the break and the end of my vacation.”

He added: “Teammates come and go, but not like this.”

Salah continued: “I find it very difficult to accept Diogo’s absence when we return to training. I deeply sympathize with his wife and children, and of course his parents, who lost their children suddenly.”

The Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, is preparing to host the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain on May 31.

Paris qualified for the final after eliminating Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate, winning 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium before repeating the victory 2-1 at the Parc des Princes.

Inter’s qualification was the most exciting in the Champions League in years, coming at the expense of Barcelona. The first leg in the Catalan city ended 3-3, before the Nerazzurri won 4-3 after extra time at their home stadium.

An interesting irony is that the two teams (Paris and Inter) have never met before in a European match or official competition.

The Allianz Arena match will be the first between the two teams, both of whom are hoping to end the season with the European title.

The last friendly between the two clubs was in August 2023, during their pre-season tour of Japan. Inter won 2-1.

Paris hopes to wear the star on their jersey by winning their first title and their second in French football history, following Marseille’s 1993 triumph.

Inter, meanwhile, is dreaming of their fourth title, having won in 1964, 1965, and 2010.

Inter last qualified for the final in 2023, losing 1-0 to Manchester City. Paris reached their only final in 2020, losing to Bayern Munich by the same score.

An Italian newspaper reported a surprising possibility that former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp might take over at AS Roma starting next season.

The Italian newspaper La Stampa reported that Klopp’s name has been surprisingly linked with the position of Roma’s successor to veteran Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri will leave AS Roma at the end of this season after taking over as the team’s manager on a temporary basis midway through the season.

The newspaper added, “An agreement has been reached with Klopp, and this is the result of a decision that had been under consideration for some time.”

It continued, “The German coach had previously given his word to another club linked with a change of ownership, but when that move failed, he did not hesitate to take on the AS Roma job, giving his approval to coach the capital club.”

The newspaper noted that AS Roma will undergo a comprehensive transformation not only within the technical staff, but also in terms of the team’s roster for the new season and its signings. Klopp will serve as the team’s coach, followed by Ranieri as the club’s senior advisor.

The future of Brazilian winger Rodrygo Goes at Real Madrid remains uncertain, amid growing reports of his possible departure during the summer transfer window if the club decides to make a financial profit from selling him.

According to the Spanish program “El Chiringuito”: “Rodrigo is aware that he may be among the names Real Madrid will sacrifice this summer in order to achieve financial balance, but he has set one condition for leaving the Santiago Bernabéu: a move to Manchester City, under the leadership of coach Pep Guardiola.”

The program noted: “Rodrygo intends to move to Manchester City if the team fails to qualify for the Champions League next season.”

It added: “Rodrygo will wait until Xabi Alonso takes over as coach of the team to see if he will rely on him, especially since the Spanish coach is implementing a 3-5-2 formation with Leverkusen, a system that may not suit him.”

It’s worth noting that Rodrygo has not appeared for Real Madrid since being substituted at halftime of the Copa del Rey final on April 26, amid widespread uncertainty surrounding his condition.

Real Madrid’s Brazilian star, Rodrygo Goes, has turned against the club due to his marginalization this season.

Spanish radio station Radio Marca reported: “Rodrygo Goes, who hasn’t played a single minute in El Clásico, is not only considering leaving Real Madrid, but also doesn’t want to play for Real Madrid again.”

It added: “Rodrygo feels marginalized after the media hype surrounding Jude Bellingham’s brilliance, and also after the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, which has led to a rift between him and his compatriot Vinicius Junior.”

It concluded: “The Brazilian striker is extremely angry and is secluded at home. His future now depends on the decision of Xabi Alonso, the potential coach of Los Blancos. However, all indications indicate that he will be one of the names Real Madrid will put up for sale this summer.”

It’s worth noting that Rodrygo Goes has previously been linked with moves to Manchester City and Arsenal during the upcoming summer transfer window.
