Guardiola Conference: Chelsea’s spending is none of my business, but .. that’s why Cancelo left

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola revealed the scenes of the departure of his Portuguese player, Joao Cancelo, and commented on Chelsea’s disbursement during the transfer market.

Manchester City will play Tottenham next Sunday in the top of the 22nd round of the English Premier League.

“I wish him well in the next four months, I don’t know what will happen in the next season,” Guardiola said at the press conference about Cancelo. “He was an important element in our winning the last two league championships and after the World Cup we decided to play with some different styles. He likes to play always and with the new situation.” He hasn’t played much, he has to play every game to be happy and we decided to let him go to Munich. I hope he can do it there.”

Joao Cancelo moved on loan to Bayern Munich until the end of the season, with the right to buy for 70 million euros.

He added, “Aki cannot play all matches as a left back. Laporte and Rico Luis, as well as Gomez, can play in this position as well.”

“It’s none of my business. It’s a surprise. We’ve won 11 trophies in the last five years being one of the five or six net-spending teams in the league,” he continued.

Chelsea signed eight players during the last winter transfer window, with a total of 329.5 million euros.

He continued about Conte’s absence, “Antonio is an active person in the touchline and directs the team well. The players know very well the patterns and what they have to do. We want him to recover soon and return to his position.”

Tottenham coach Antonio Conte will miss the leadership of his team in the upcoming matches due to undergoing surgery.

And he went on about Manchester City’s bad record at Tottenham, “They were better than us. When we were there we played well and missed penalties. They don’t give you anything before and now with Conte they are a strong opponent.”

Tottenham beat Manchester City in the last 4 matches that brought the two teams together at the first stadium in all competitions.

And he added, “Stones will be absent for 3 to 4 weeks due to injury. Unfortunately, he will miss a large number of matches.”

And he concluded, “Pedro Bono is a great addition to Tottenham, but we did not work to include him in January. He was on the list, but we did not think about buying back and he went to Tottenham.”

The 23-year-old moved on loan from Sporting Lisbon, Portugal, to Tottenham on loan for 5 million euros until the end of the season, with the right to buy.
