A new club is threatened with a points deduction in the English Premier League

A new English club active in the Premier League was subject to points deduction penalties.

According to the British newspaper “The Guardian”, 5 points were deducted from Nottingham Forest club’s balance as a result of violating the rules of profitability and sustainability in the English Premier League.

The newspaper added that the decision is expected to be officially issued today, Monday, but Nottingham is likely to appeal against it immediately after its issuance.

She explained that Nottingham had already admitted to committing the violation, but it was based on the fact that circumstances had led to the sale of its player, Brennan Johnson, to Tottenham.

Nottingham received an offer from Brentford to include Johnson, for 30 million pounds, but the player refused.

The club waited until after the deadline set for June 30, then sold his contract to Tottenham for 47.5 million pounds, which was rejected by an independent committee in the English Premier League.

The newspaper pointed out that the English Premier League regulations stipulate that club losses over a period of three years should not exceed 105 million pounds sterling, while Nottingham Forest’s losses were limited to 61 million pounds sterling.

Nottingham’s defense relies on this point in its argument, pointing out that all the money spent (250 million pounds sterling) was aimed at competing strongly.

Nottingham is not the only club that was punished by having points deducted from its score this season, as Everton preceded it for the same reason, after 10 points were deducted from its score and then it was appealed and 4 points were added after that.

Nottingham ranks eighteenth in the Premier League standings, with 21 points.
