Guardiola on his successor: He can coach any team in the world

Spanish Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach, denied an exciting story about his successor that was recently covered by the British press.

Several press reports stated that Guardiola told the players that he had nominated Roberto De Zerbe, Brighton coach, to succeed him in Manchester City.

Guardiola said, during statements highlighted by the BeIN Sports network: “I don’t remember saying this. Maybe I have a bad memory, but I am sure that De Zerbe can coach in any team around the world… I have no doubt about that.”

He added: “I don’t remember saying that to the players. I remember talking to them about keeping the coach, but I don’t remember saying that frankly.”

He continued: “It is not my business to choose the coach who will succeed me. If the president asks for my opinion, I will give my opinion, but this is not my responsibility.”

He continued: “I am not the sports director, and it is not my responsibility to say what he is planning if it is done right or wrong.”

She continued: “This does not mean that you have to work in major clubs to be a coach of a major team. I was appointed to Barcelona’s first team coming from the fourth division without any experience.”
