Final decision in the ‘assault’ case sentenced Robertson
The English Premier League arbitration committee announced its official decision regarding the incident of the elbow assault by assistant referee Kostantin Hatzidakis on Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson, after the end of the first half of the Reds match against Arsenal (2-2) last Sunday.
The committee stated that it would not take any action against the assistant referee in that incident.
The incident occurred at the end of the first half when Robertson went to the assistant referee to protest, and the latter raised his arm and hit the Scotsman in the face, which led to a wave of protests by the Liverpool players.
The FA suspended the assistant referee pending the conclusion of the investigation, and he has now been cleared of any wrongdoing and is free to continue working.
“We have thoroughly reviewed all evidence relating to the recent incident at Anfield involving Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and match referee Constantine, and will not take any further action,” the FA said in a statement today.
“Our comprehensive process included reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and the Referees Committee as well as multiple angles of video footage, relating to both the incident and the circumstances surrounding it.”
An enraged Robertson received a yellow card in the aftermath of the incident.
“I fully assisted the FA in its investigation and discussed the matter directly with Robertson during an open and positive conversation,” Costantin said in a statement from the Referees Committee.
He added, “It was certainly not my intention to make any contact with the player because I pulled my arm away from him and for that I apologised.”
“I’m looking forward to getting back in charge of the matches,” he added.
