mind refuses, and madness says yes.. History places Chelsea as Champions League champion
It has nothing to do with logic when we talk about Chelsea and the Champions League
Reason and logic say no, but football madness says yes a thousand times to put Chelsea among the favorites to win the Champions League this season.
Blues fans mocked their team’s recent victory in the English Premier League against Leeds United, after the shameful series of defeats and draws, but tonight’s victory over Borussia Dortmund can never be met with ridicule.
The English team recovered from its defeat in the first leg of the round of 16 against its German counterpart, to come back victorious with a brace scored by Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling.
Tonight’s victory is not like any victory that Chelsea can achieve, rather it is a step that may have some future and historical indications.
History supports madness
Chelsea is going through a state of collapse at the domestic level, as it has moved away from achieving anything from the season in England under the leadership of its coach, Graham Potter, who is in danger of being dismissed.
The Blues are in tenth place with 34 points, 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, so the chances of the team participating in the Champions League next season seem almost impossible, but there is no problem!
Chelsea was struggling locally in the 2011/2012 season, when Roberto Di Matteo replaced Andre Boash in the middle of the season, finishing the league in sixth place with 64 points, but he focused on the Champions League and succeeded in winning the competition after overcoming giants such as Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
And in the 2020/2021 season, it happened in the same way, when Chelsea achieved fourth place in the English Premier League and was completely out of competition for the title, but he won the title of champions with Thomas Tuchel, who also came in the middle of the season at the expense of Frank Lampard.
What happened with Di Matteo and Tuchel does not have to happen with Potter, but both times Chelsea overturned all expectations after it was one of the last candidates to win the title from everyone’s fangs.
League championships always need a long breath, adaptation and harmony for continuity, but combined tournaments such as the Champions League can be won by taking advantage of some individual experiences and skills.
The huge money that Todd Boley spent and caused him to be accused of madness may finally come to fruition, due to the experiences that the team possesses in Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Kafi Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Joao Felix and other distinguished talents such as Wesley Fofana, Mikhailo Modric and Enzo Fernandez, which The blues weapon may be to overturn all expectations.
The faltering level of Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid this season may make things possible, but it is never easy and will require a lot of effort and focus.
Patience on Potter
The message of Todd Boley, the new owner of Chelsea, was clear when the club abandoned Thomas Tuchel in the middle of this season, that the dispute with the German was different over the future direction of the club by contracting with the most important young talents in the world to support the team.
The English club relied on Graham Potter, who built a bright reputation with the “conqueror of adults” Brighton, with his distinctive style and integrated system in defense and attack, but he was unable to repeat that after moving to West London.
The team’s qualification to the quarter-finals of the Champions may give the Potter project a kiss of life, to be a new version of Mikel Arteta, who everyone demanded to dismiss with Arsenal, before making the Gunners one of the most important and best European teams currently, and also helped the team to occupy the top of the English Premier League after 26 rounds.
Potter’s previous experience with Brighton confirms that he can deal with difficult situations with minimal capabilities, but he currently has all the capabilities and has a specific task ahead of him by focusing on the Champions League to recreate the history of madness again, so will he do it?
